a) A viscous hydrocarbon secretion of many plants, particularly coniferous trees.
b) Any of various yellowish viscous liquids or soft solids of plant origin; used in lacquers, varnishes and many other applications; chemically they are mostly hydrocarbons, often polycyclic.
