a) Afterward in time (used with than when comparing with another time).

You came in late yesterday and today you came in even later.

b) At some unspecified time in the future.

My roommate arrived first. I arrived later.<! (but we could both have been on time)

2. adjective /leɪtə/
a) Coming afterward in time (used with than when comparing with another time).

Jim was later than John.

b) At some time in the future.

The Victorian era is a later period of English history than the Elizabethan era.

3. interjection /leɪtə/
a) See you later; goodbye.

Later, dude.

b) Dismissive term to minimize importance of an annoying persons. Frequently used with "for you". "Later for you."
