pichvai
The pichvai (literally, ‘something at the back’) is an Indian temple hanging (paint on cotton cloth) with scenes from the life of the Hindu deity Lord Krishna (always blue) and is used as a backdrop for his idol. The pichvai has made its transition from the religious to the secular, making colorful decorative hangings in urban homes. alternate spelling: pichhavai
